Redbelly formerly known as Tractor opens their self-titled
debut effort with the single Fire in the Hole a track that
leans toward the heavy side of the grunge sound. Had this album
been released five or six years earlier they could have easily
been a founding father in the Seattle revolution; however their
sound is more imitative than original at this point. Kirk Henry’s
vocals are eerily similar to Chris Cornell’s of Soundgarden fame
making it difficult to sonically distinguish the two singers. The
worthiness of the album lies in the rhythm and lead guitar
playing ability of Damon LaScot. Scorching solos and deep power
chords are prevalent on virtually every track creating a sense
of brooding throughout the record. While Redbelly may have a hard
time differentiating themselves from the other grunge imitators
they may find an audience with fans who appreciate the moody
dark rock sound that displaced hair bands and bubblegum pop
