Rock from Canada is waiting in the starting block.
Danko Jones, man of many talents, is coming back with a
brand new album called “Fire music”. And the album
represents what the title promises. It’s a reall hot
rock & metal fireworks that is burned down by the
Toronto-based guitarist.
“Fire music” is the twelves record of the axeman/singer
and one of the most aggressive ones. It looks like
Danko uses the eleven numbers on the longplayer as an
outlet for a lot of cumulated anger and frustration.
It’s exactly those emotions which gives the album the
raw power and explosive vibe that makes it special and
authentic.
The beginning of “Fire music” couldn’t be better. “Wild
woman” is an excellent hybrid that combines the strong
parts from Kyuss with the hardrock from The Cult. Hot
stuff. With “The twisting knife” the pace increases.
The tune is a raging one with a dense sound. The
Maiden-like “Ohohoh” part fits perfectly into the
context as well as the roaring guitars.
Another songs, another facette of Danko Jones. “Gonna
be a fight tonight” is an angry punk-based track that
kicks ass. It can develop to a live anthem for each
Danko Jones live show. A raw diamond.
You have a need to breath deeply after those tracks. No
way. “Body bags” is even faster, more aggressive and
more uncompromissing than the before heard highlights.
Again it’s a lot of punk that is the foundation for the
track that is an ultimate enrgizer.
Compared to these songs “Life forever” comes with a
more moderate pace. It’s similar to the opener and puts
the groove into focus. A cool number and a typical live
‘whoohoo’ one too. Dirty rock’n’roll that makes a lot
of fun. “Do you wanna rock” comes with a 70’s vibe that
reminded me to Kiss while “Getting into drugs” is a
smasher with a great riff. Vocals are a bit weird which
fits to the title of the track.
After those groovers it’s time to speed up again.
“Watch you slide” lives up to this expectation. The
song is like a running steam train that can’t be
stopped. It’s rather simple but highly efficient.
“Piranha” is slightly similar, while “I will break your
heart” reflects the bluesy side of Danko Jones.
The bouncer is the mean rocker “She ain’t coming home”
– a song with a Social Distortion vibe that finish a
brilliant hardrock album.
“Fire music” is a rock fireworks that you should not
miss. Eleven songs will make your day. An album that is
one of the first highlights in 2015.
